lyrics

Through the streets of San Diego, walked a man with a backpack full of things that he held close to him, his blanket and his toothbrush * Everywhere he passed he had a smile upon his face and he took the time to talk to me * I won’t forget what he said * He said, life is short and I don’t want to waste it * Money kills the society that made it * Life is short and if we don’t embrace it we’ll live our lives just wishing that we did * He told me of his travels, hitched from Albany to Tucson Where the heat was far too much and forced him out towards the ocean * Where he spent his days and nights in a tent the cliffs below him, as the redwoods towered over, dropping needles on his forehead * As he wrote, life is short and I don’t want to waste it * Money kills the society that made it * Life is short and if we don’t embrace it, we’ll live our lives just wishing that we did * So many people go through their whole lives And at the end they wish they’d done it right * Everyone can sing their own song * Be who you are * As we talked along the streets I asked him how he got his food * As he replied, he worked some side jobs at the shelter near the bayside * He said he was growing tired of the city life around him * Just like that he said good bye * And started off towards the East * And I know life is short and I don’t want to waste it * Money kills the society that made it * Life is short and if we don’t embrace it we’ll live our lives just wishing that we did
